Teens in AI’s Elena Sinel inspires Ethical Innovation in the Algarve

Teens in AI Founder & CEO, Elena Sinel, featured in The Portugal Post on the critical role of diversity in shaping responsible AI.

Teens in AI has once again made waves in Portugal, with a recent feature in The Portugal Post highlighting our successful AI Design Sprint held in Lagoa. The event brought together 40+ teenagers from diverse backgrounds to tackle real-world community issues using artificial intelligence.

As our Founder and CEO Elena Sinel noted, the initiative is rooted in equity; by training young people to view AI as a civic tool for solving local problems, we empower them to stay engaged with education and pursue high-impact careers in technology.

The article showcases the incredible creativity of our participants, specifically highlighting winning projects like “Ai Eat“, which addresses nutritional inequality, and “EqualMinds“, a tool designed to confront gender bias in classrooms. With research showing that 85% of Portuguese youth are already using generative AI – yet fewer than 15% have received formal guidance on its risks – the work of Teens in AI is more critical than ever.

We are proud to lead the charge in moving tech education away from isolated coding classes and toward a future where ethics and human judgment remain at the heart of innovation.
