Making AI Accessible to
Under-Resourced Youth Across Europe
A two-year Flagship Programme partnership with Beiersdorf:
Nine hackathons, five countries, 500 young people.
A Shared Commitment to Inclusive Tech
Beiersdorf, one of Europe’s leading personal care companies, approached Teens in AI with a clear ambition: to make technology and AI genuinely accessible to young people who would not otherwise encounter it. The result was a two-year Flagship Programme, a series of nine in-person hackathons hosted at Beiersdorf locations across Europe, running from 2023 to 2025.
The programme was designed primarily for girls aged 12 to 18, but inclusive of all genders, with a deliberate focus on under-resourced communities where access to tech education is limited. Beiersdorf’s European offices provided the venues, the volunteer experts, and the organisational commitment. Teens in AI designed and delivered the learning experience.
How the Programme Ran
Our approach is designed to move from first conversation to classroom delivery quickly, with full support at every stage.
01
Learn
Each hackathon opened with workshops led by Beiersdorf experts and AI professionals, covering coding, AI fundamentals, responsible tech design, and ethical considerations. Teens with no prior experience were brought up to speed alongside those with more background.
02
Build
Working in teams with support from industry mentors, participants developed projects responding to real-world challenges. Mentors guided them through the creative process, ethical thinking, and practical problem-solving.
03
Present
At the close of each event, teams presented their solutions to a panel of expert judges. 56 projects were developed across the full programme, with participants gaining confidence in both their technical abilities and their ability to communicate ideas.
