Teens in AI recognises that risk management is a vital part of ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of all participants, staff, and volunteers. We are committed to conducting thorough risk assessments for all activities, both online and in-person.

2. Objectives

    1. Identify hazards that may cause harm.
    2. Assess the likelihood and severity of risks.
    3. Implement proportionate control measures.
    4. Review and monitor risks to ensure continuous improvement.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all activities, including:

  1. Online programmes: safeguarding risks, digital security, participant wellbeing.
  2. In-person programmes: venue safety, travel, equipment use, safeguarding.

4. Responsibilities

    1. Health and Safety Officer: Ensure risk assessments are completed, recorded, and reviewed.
    2. Staff and Volunteers: Comply with control measures and report hazards.
    3. Participants: Follow safety instructions provided.

5. Risk Assessment Process

Identify Hazards: Consider physical, environmental, digital, and safeguarding hazards.

Evaluate Risks: Assess likelihood and impact (low/medium/high).

Control Measures: Put in place appropriate measures (eg, supervision ratios, DBS checks, secure online platforms, venue checks).

Record Findings: Document the assessment using a standard risk assessment template.

Implement Actions: Ensure all staff and volunteers understand required controls.

Review and Update: Reassess risks regularly and after any incident or significant change.

6. Monitoring and Review

    1. Risk assessments will be reviewed before each major programme or event.
    2. Lessons learned from incidents, near misses, and feedback will be incorporated.
    3. The Health and Safety Officer will report annually to the leadership team.
