Teens in AI Champions Critical AI Literacy at REDEFINE Education Conference 2026

Teens in AI joined educators at Redhill School in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the REDEFINE Education Conference 2026, a three-day event bringing educators together to challenge assumptions, share ideas and reimagine the future of learning.

Centred on the belief that every decision should begin with the child, REDEFINE explored themes including play, curiosity, critical thinking, student agency and leadership in an AI-enabled world.

Alanna explored how critical AI literacy can help young people move beyond using AI tools to questioning their limitations, evaluating information and creating responsible solutions to real-world challenges.

The session introduced three Teens in AI pathways for schools:

• AI Adventures
• Responsible AI & Life Orientation
• The Global AI Techathon

Delegates also saw examples of South African students applying AI and design thinking to challenges including accessible mobility and teacher workload.

By helping young people learn how AI works, question its outputs and create solutions responsibly, Teens in AI aims to equip the next generation with the skills and agency to shape an AI-enabled future.

The philosophy at the heart of REDEFINE, every decision beginning with the child, is the exact same principle guiding ethical AI education. The next generation of AI creators, ethical technologists, and social innovators is already sitting in classrooms across South Africa. Connecting them with the agency, skills, and global platform to make an impact takes all of us working together.
