Teens in AI alum, Sofia Dey Choudhury, 13, is co-founder of Mathletico, AI-powered maths tuition app Mathletico — says it can be tough balancing school work and the entrepreneurial lifestyle, and that her classmates aren’t always kind about her devotion to extracurricular activities outside the playground. Sophia’s journey into AI started when she participated in Teens in AI’s AI4Good Incubator in 2022 at the age of 11.

In her interview with Tim Smith, News Editor at Sifted in March 2024, she says that the experience “has been quite difficult … It does take quite a lot of my time. When I told some people about it, they were like, ‘Well, is there really any point to doing this? Because it’s maths and does anyone actually care?’. People have also called me a geek for it, but I try to ignore them”.

Teens in AI is incredibly proud of Sophia, with the support of her co-founder father, Sibaji Dey Choudhury, for developing an app where students across the country and in every community can receive maths tuition with the click of a button. Community support is something that is critical in today’s world, and very much aligned with Teens in AI’s ethos and values.

In his article, Tim Smith, News Editor at Sifted, aptly said “the joke might soon be on the bullies, with Dey Choudhury having the last laugh: Mathletico just won its first customer — Barking and Dagenham college, which is paying a subscription to let its students access the app“.

Sophia says that her company will hit breakeven when it signs up a couple more similar sized customers.

Elena Sinel and the team at Teens in AI wish Sophia and her father every success with Mathletico!
