Thanks to Beiersdorf’s support, Teens in AI hosted an exciting hackathon in Paris, France on October 14th and 15th, 2023. This event was a fantastic opportunity for young tech enthusiasts to learn and get inspired.

The scene was set: a spirited assembly of young minds, aged 12 to 18, hailing from diverse backgrounds, all coming together under the banner of technology. It was a joyous occasion that provided these talented individuals with a platform to display their passion for technology, all in pursuit of closing the digital gap and nurturing the next wave of ethical AI researchers, innovators, and leaders.

A hearty round of applause goes out to Team 🏆Pain Chaud 🏆 (comprising the talented Lyam P, Nathan L, Luc L, Geronimo JL, and Elyes C) for their remarkable project dedicated to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13: Gender Equality. Bravo, team!

Now, let’s introduce the esteemed judges from Beiersdorf who had the daunting task of evaluating these ingenious projects:

Marianne MĂ©zou, the HR Director for France-Benelux.
Petr Mlatecek, the General Manager for France-Benelux.
Garima Sherma, the HR VP for Digital Analytics & Transformation.
Emilie Joubert, the VP of HR for Europe.

We can’t forget to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the devoted mentors who generously shared their wisdom with our young participants as they embarked on their project journeys. Our mentors are the unsung heroes, and we salute their exceptional contributions:

Mohammed GRIMEJ, a Professor in Education Nationale.
Alma Mangasarian, a Student at the Université de Paris.
Raouia Ayed, a Product Owner at Capgemini.
Ellen Pilache, a Student at UTC.
Alexis Revue, a Delivery Manager.
Jeswin Arul Samuel, a Business Intelligence Engineer at Amazon Luxembourg.
Dr. Mohamed Abidi, Big Data & AI Expert working with Mazars and LCL.
Aymane Dassouli, a Developer at Fnac Darty.
Margaux Penwarden, a Principal Data Scientist at QuantumBlack AI by McKinsey.

But the magic didn’t stop there! Our event was graced by an array of remarkable speakers who shared their wisdom and experience:

Loubna Ben Allal, a Machine Learning Engineer from Hugging Face.
Laurène Vaugrante, a PhD student in AI Ethics at the University of Stuttgart.
Melanie Bauer, a Design Thinking Consultant from Hitachi Solutions.

The participants really loved the programme and many of them wanted to get their schools involved in similar events. They talked about how much fun it was to work with their teammates, how helpful the mentors were, and how tasty the food was! Their feedback shows that the hackathon was a big success in creating a supportive and enriching atmosphere, and it had a lasting impact on the young talents who joined in.

About the Teens in AI and Beiersdorf Partnership

Recognising the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed in tomorrow’s world, the partnership between Teens in AI and Beiersdorf aims to provide these skills to those who may not have the opportunity otherwise. By making the world of responsible AI and technology more accessible, young people from under-resourced communities can be inspired and empowered to shape their dreams and build a better future for themselves and their communities. Teens in AI and Beiersdorf have joined forces to create a tangible impact by organising a series of nine in-person hackathons across Beiersdorf Group’s European locations.
